A description in (a few) words and (many) pictures
Saturday, June 2, 2007: We wake up with radiant sunshine on Gotland, are exploring the old Hanseatic City of Visby (World Heritage Site of the UNESCO), and are walking the famous labyrinth outside the walls of the town under the galgberget. Just behind our hotel was a park with a monument for Olof Palme, nearby the Botanical Garden. Our first excursion leads us to the labyrinth from Dibjärs, which is unfortunately completely overgrown. We are visiting the church of Ganthem with a labyrinth graffiti on the wall. In the evening there is a great surprise: A Roman labyrinth in the pavement in front of the Cathedral St. Maria Domkyrka. It was built in 1985, but still unknown to the cathedral provost and other experts. A German surveyor found this labyrinth in 2007 in front of the Cathedral church, which was originally built as church for German merchants on Gotland, 1225 earliest known dedication date.
